Q: How do you make the most out of networking opportunities during a conference?
A: Great question as I will be at AERA but not presenting, which means that I have more time for networking. Bring business cards or set up a digital one. Practice your elevator pitch and introduce yourself even if it’s just to say, “I enjoyed your presentation.” Set realistic goals. I aim to meet two new people a day. I think that you can also create your own networking opportunities by reaching out to people beforehand to see if they might have time to chat for 30 minutes or so. Lastly, follow up! Keep a running list throughout the conference of people to email and/or connect with on LinkedIn afterwards. Read more advice from the GGW Community here.
