Things right now are pretty rough, and I can’t imagine starting grad school in this atmosphere. Whether you are just beginning or are already in the throes of getting an advanced degree, we all really need community right now. My first suggestion is to be honest about your needs–it’s okay if you don’t want to do it all by yourself; you shouldn’t have to. The reason people are creating and/or joining accountability groups is because they are in the same boat as you. Quick tips: 1) Initiate it. Send a DM, email or private message asking to connect; 2) Do your research. There are lots of formal working sessions organized by academic Facebook groups, professional associations and online communities like The Academic Society; 3) Be a friend.
